Smell is an incredibly powerful evoker of memory, so why not create a special one for your special day? You could choose a blend that matches your flowers, or simply blends nicely with them.
Wear it to associate the memories of your wedding with the smell and then you’ll have a wearable reminder of the day.

Pin a vintage or family heirloom brooch to the ribbon of your hand-tied bouquet for your something old. It will also become a special piece of jewellery to wear for years to come.

If possible, try to vary the intensity of the lighting in your venue. Candlelight on tables is soft and romantic, and brighter lights can be used to highlight key areas.

For some brides the thought of tossing your wedding bouquet off into a crowd isn’t appealing. If you’d like to keep the tradition but also keep your bouquet, have your florist make a mini-me for your bouquet and toss that instead.

If you’re going to wind up putting people who don’t know each other on tables together, give them something to talk about! This can range through a variety of puzzles and games, including writing a quiz about yourselves that can only be answered by people talking to one another, fortune-telling (the paper ones you had at school), brain teasers or wind-up toys to race. Just pick something in keeping with the theme.

Flower petal confetti is actually rather easy to make – simply dry out your chosen petals by placing them on a tray somewhere warm and dry, such as the airing cupboard. Once dried they can be stored in a cardboard box, or anything that isn’t airtight, until you need them.

Don’t get caught out with your guests having to pay extra postage! Some envelope sizes and weights have different costs, so it’s worth making up a complete invitation with everything you want to include and taking it to the post office to have it weighed and accurately priced. It may take a bit of standing in the queue, but it’ll be worth it in the long run!

First off, my apologies that it’s been a few weeks since I last posted one of these. Unfortunately the job that pays the rent forced me to put in a few 12-hour days, and I sadly did not have time for anything else. *le sigh*
On the bright side, the conference is over and I have my life back, and it feels good to be back into the habit of blogging. So, to make up for all the missed posts, I offer a few thoughts on throughlines:
Your throughline doesn’t have to be anything so defined as a theme, it could be something as simple as a colour or a motif that you carry across different elements of the day.
Having a throughline will help keep your day co-ordinated, and make it look of a piece while avoiding any clashes. Make your throughline something that suits you and use it to tie your day together!

When one of my best friends got married last year, this particular bit of advice definitely upped the amount of time she got to party at her wedding. They’d abandoned the receiving line and did photos before the ceremony, so they were able to take full advantage of an hour and a half of their guests wandering around nibbling canapes to say hello and thank you to nearly everyone. This meant when we all went into the ballroom for dinner and dancing, they got to party with everyone else instead of skipping dinner to go table-to-table to see everyone.

Order your thank you notes when you order your invitations. Not only will it be easier to get them matching and save on having multiple shipments from your stationer/printer, you’ll also have them to hand when the gifts start arriving. It’s easier to remember to send them if you can write them straight away, and you’re likely to receive gifts in advance of the wedding.
